Our business grew out of our search for the highest quality food for our family as opposed to a business plan. We wanted meat from animals raised on pasture with access to kelp and other other top quality loose minerals. Because we do not want toxic chemicals in our food or environment, and because animal foods concentrate toxins, we don't use chemicals on the fields or animals. We move the sheep to a new slice of pasture regularly, which is better for them and for the land then letting them graze it all at once, or (gasp!) confining them in a feedlot. This method of farming is known to sequester more carbon from the air than planting the same area in trees! But actually, we are doing both. It's more work, but it is worth it to us to have the very best food for our family and customers.
Unlike many farms selling "grass fed lamb" who actually feed grain and say "grass fed" to distinguish themselves from a feedlot, our lambs have never had so much as one bite of grain in their lives. This is important because any grain at all throws off the important Omega 3 balance.
Our critters live happy, peaceful lives on our lush pastures from the day they are born. Along with the rest of the flock, they eat their fresh salad, and rest in the shade of the trees, supplemented only with grass hay in the winter and minerals of course.
We all know that not everyone can afford the best food, which is a great sorrow, and that plenty who can afford it do not prioritize it. We here at Grazy Days believe that vibrant health is our greatest abundance and that it comes largely from our food. We believe that the best food can change our lives and help save the planet. We believe this because we have experienced profound improvements in our own health and because we have seen and studied how the soil, plant, and wildlife communities benefit from the kind of farming we do.
